Governor Lister’s Welcome

Greeting to my East Missouri Optimist (EMO) Optimist Family,
I thank you for the trust you have bestowed on me to be the EMO District Governor for 2016-2017. I truly believe in the purpose of our organization. We can change the world one child, person and community at a time. This is why I joined the organization and why I asked to be considered as your Governor.
How can we change the world? We meet with people and infect them with our “Sunny side of everything” and “Can Do” disposition. Not only do we believe our creed, but we put our belief into action when we serve our community. We work hard to “Bring out the best in every kid and ourselves”. We also do more than just talk – we back up our words with action!
To me, the pillars of our organization are kindness, humor, humility and heart. Optimist International (OI) I President for 2016-2017, Jim Kondrasuk, has named 2016-2017 as the year of the Honor Club and the OI theme is “Together We Can”. The timing for this theme is perfect. We have to understand that our strength is in the chord we create together. Our EMO theme is a combination of the OI theme and the pillars of our organization & district: “Together, with the Heart of a Servant, we can change our world” or ”Heart of a Servant”.
We will work hard to make sure every club in our district is an honor club, and help interested clubs to become distinguished. This is important because this milestone is an easy way to help us track the metrics of meeting our goal in helping as many kids as possible in the most efficient manner.
The EMO district has produced many leaders and accomplishments, including 3 past International Presidents, the 1st World Optimist Oratorical champion (2016) among many others. I am proud to be a part of this legacy and we will continue to show the world our ability to work hard and to solve problems together.
Together, with the heart of a servant, we can change our world,
Lister Florence, Governor 2016-2017
